Benjamin Harvey was born 1751 and was christened in St Thomas Parish in Orange, Virginia. He was the son of John Harvey and Mary M Burke.
Benjamin Harvey married Susannah Ballard on 23 February 1775 in Orange, Virginia. They had 10 children in the following order: Amelia “Millie”, William, Elizabeth, Mollie, Audrey Ankey, Nancy, John, Lucy, Susannah, and Thomas Jefferson.
About 1793, Benjamin and Susan left Orange County Virginia came to Monroe County and settled on Indian Creek near present village of Greenville. The place where they settled was later known as Springfield and later Hunter’s Springs. Benjamin Harvey received 1,102 acres of land by grant in 1800.

Benjamin Harvey died about 1826 in Monroe, Virginia (now West Virginia)
