Mary Frances “Polly” Woodford, a daughter of William and Frances “Fanny” Howe Woodford, was born in Shenandoah County, Virginia, about 1776.
She married George Lance in Rockingham County, Virginia, May 27,1795.
George and Mary were on their way west and were advised in Philadelphia to settle on Big Run, Barbour County, West Virginia. With them were their sons William and Henry and a nephew, George.
It’s interesting that it mentions George and Mary in Philadelphia. Mary gave a deposition regarding her father’s service in the Revolutionary War. In the deposition, she states that both she and her mother were in Philadelpia during the time of the war. Indeed it seems there is a Philadelphia connection.
